Chapter pacing analyzer
Paste one or more chapters, each starting with its heading. The tool compares their length with the median, then shows, for each chapter, the length of every sentence and the stretches where they're too alike. It's SagaScope's rhythm engine, running in your browser.
Start each chapter with a heading on its own line: "Chapter 3", "# The forest" or "XII". Up to 300,000 characters.
Vertical line: median length. ▲ over 1.6 times the median, ▼ under half. Click a chapter to see its sentence rhythm.

Chapter length
Chapters of very different lengths aren't a mistake: a short chapter after a reveal lets the reader breathe. But a chapter twice as long as the others often hides two chapters, or a scene that drags. The tool flags those over 1.6 times the median or under half of it.
Sentence rhythm
A run of sentences of the same length lulls the reader, short or long. The tool measures how much lengths vary over windows of consecutive sentences and colours the flat stretches. Vary them: a short sentence after two long ones grabs attention again.
Common questions

- Between 2,000 and 5,000 words in most genres, shorter in thrillers, longer in literary fiction or fantasy. The novel length calculator gives ranges by genre.
- Is my manuscript sent anywhere?
- No. Splitting and calculations happen in your browser; nothing is saved.
