How it's calculated

Words left = goal − words already written. The planner then counts the writing days between today and the deadline (both included), keeping only the weekdays you ticked, and divides the words left by that number of sessions, rounded up.

A goal you can keep

A steady pace beats a heroic target: many authors sustain 500 to 1,500 words per session. If the result looks too high, push the deadline back or add a writing day rather than aiming for sessions you won't keep up.

NaNoWriMo mode prefills the classic challenge: 50,000 words in November, or 1,667 words a day.

Common questions

How many words a day to finish a novel?
It depends on the goal and the timeframe: 80,000 words in six months with five sessions a week is about 615 words per session. The planner runs that calculation for your own numbers.
How many words a day for NaNoWriMo?
1,667 words a day for the 30 days of November to reach 50,000 words. If you don't write every day, the per-session target goes up: about 2,400 words with five sessions a week.
Is the data I enter saved?
No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser; nothing is sent to our servers.
